The admit card, also called an admission certificate, e-admit card, hall ticket or call letter, is the one document you cannot enter an exam hall without. Every recruiting body releases it online now, and none of the major central bodies sends it by post. Yet every exam season, candidates panic because the link is not working, they forgot their password, or the admit card shows a wrong detail. This guide explains how admit cards are released by SSC, UPSC and IBPS, how to download them, what to check on them, and exactly what to do if yours is missing or wrong.

When Are Admit Cards Released?

Each body follows its own schedule. These timelines come from recent official notices:

BodyWhat is released and when
SSCExam city and time-table information is uploaded about 10 days before the exam. The admission certificate can be downloaded 2-3 days before the exam (CHSL 2026 notice).
UPSCThe e-admit card is issued on the last working day of the week before the exam. Candidates who change their scribe within seven days of the exam get it three days before (ESE 2027 notice). No admit card is sent by post.
IBPS and banksCall letters are downloaded from the recruitment website. IBPS or the bank may send intimation to your registered email and mobile number.

Treat these as general patterns. The exact release date for your exam is announced on the official website, so check there regularly rather than waiting for an SMS.

How to Download Your Admit Card

Step 1: Use only the official website

Go directly to the recruiting body's website, such as ssc.gov.in, upsconline.nic.in, ibps.in or the bank's own site. Do not use links forwarded on messaging apps. Fake admit card pages exist to collect your login details.

Step 2: Log in with your registration details

For SSC, log in with your one-time registration (OTR) details on ssc.gov.in or the mySSC app. For UPSC, use your account on upsconline.nic.in. For IBPS, use the registration number and password, or date of birth, created when you applied.

Step 3: Open the admit card section

Look for a link named Admit Card, Admission Certificate, e-Admit Card or Call Letter for your exam. Some portals show it inside your dashboard. Others list it on the home page against the exam name.

Step 4: Download and print

Save the PDF on your phone and in your email, and take a clear printout on A4 paper. SSC says candidates must bring a printout of the admission certificate to the exam hall. Many candidates take two printouts in case one gets damaged.

What to Check on the Admit Card

Read it the same day you download it, not on the morning of the exam.

  • Name, date of birth, father's name and category, matched against your application
  • Photograph and signature, which should be yours and clear
  • Exam date, reporting time, gate closing time and exam time
  • Venue address. Visit or map it a day before if possible.
  • Instructions printed on it, such as documents to carry and items not allowed

If the date of birth on the admit card does not match your photo ID, you may not be allowed in. The SSC CHSL 2026 notice says a mismatch between the date of birth on the admission certificate and the ID or certificate you bring will stop you from appearing.

What to Carry to the Exam

Requirements differ, but the SSC CHSL 2026 notice is a useful example:

  • A printout of the admission certificate.
  • For candidates who did not complete Aadhaar-based authentication: at least two recent passport-size colour photographs and an original valid photo ID showing date of birth. Accepted IDs include a voter ID, driving licence, PAN card, passport, college ID or government employer ID.
  • If your photo ID has no date of birth, an additional original document proving date of birth, such as the Class 10 certificate.
  • Scribe-related documents, if you use a scribe.

The same notice asks candidates without Aadhaar authentication to report two hours before the exam. Always follow the reporting time printed on your own admit card.

Important: Do not carry a mobile phone, Bluetooth device or any electronic gadget into the hall. SSC lists possession of such devices as malpractice with a debarment of three to five years.

If Your Admit Card Is Not Available

1. Confirm it has actually been released

Check the official notice board or "What's new" section. Many "admit card out" posts online are early or unofficial. If the official site has not released it, wait.

2. Check your application status

Log in and confirm your application shows as submitted and your fee as paid. SSC applications with unpaid fees are treated as incomplete and rejected, and a rejected application will not get an admit card.

3. Recover lost login details

Use the "Forgot registration number" or "Forgot password" option on the portal. These usually send details to your registered email or mobile number. If you no longer use that number, the helpline is your next step.

4. Try a different browser or device

Heavy traffic near exam dates can slow portals down. Try a desktop browser, clear the cache, or try at a less busy hour, such as early morning.

5. Contact the recruiting body in time

The SSC CHSL 2026 notice is clear on this. If you do not find your details on the website one week before the exam, contact the concerned SSC Regional Office immediately with proof of having submitted your application. The notice warns that if you fail to do so, you lose any claim for consideration. Include your registration number, roll number if known, registered email and mobile number, name, date of birth and exam name in every message. SSC says it will not entertain messages without these details.

The SSC headquarters helpdesk number given in the CHSL 2026 notice is 1800 309 3063. Regional office numbers are listed in each notice. UPSC and IBPS also publish helpline details in their notices.

If There Is a Mistake on the Admit Card

  • Spelling error in name or a wrong photo: Contact the helpline or regional office immediately, in writing, with a copy of your application printout. Carry the application printout and your original ID to the exam as well.
  • Wrong centre: You must appear at the centre printed on the admit card. UPSC notices say candidates appearing at a centre other than the one on their e-admit card will not be allowed to take the exam.
  • Photo not clear: Carry extra passport-size photographs and your original photo ID.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the admit card be sent by post?

No. SSC, UPSC and IBPS release admit cards online. UPSC's notice explicitly says no admit card is sent by post.

Can I enter the exam hall with the admit card on my phone?

Do not rely on that. SSC asks for a printout, and phones are not allowed inside exam venues.

Does getting an admit card mean I am eligible?

No. UPSC's notice says issuing an e-admit card does not mean candidature has been finally cleared. SSC also says admission at all stages is provisional.

Can I change my exam centre after the admit card is out?

Generally not. Centre requests are not accepted after allotment unless the recruiting body announces a specific facility.

I have the admit card but my photo ID is lost. What now?

Arrange another accepted original photo ID before the exam, such as a voter ID, PAN card, passport or driving licence. Check the list on your admit card.
